Left-drag one word → a role picker (Grammar or Emphasis). Left-drag several words → an underlined phrase. Right-drag from any mark to another → a relationship (Phrase relationship or Grammar link). Hover to highlight; click a mark and press Delete to remove it.
Hover or click a mark, then step between marks with ← / →. Enter locks the focused word or phrase as the root of your next link — a left- or right-click on any target then connects from it; Enter again, a click in empty space, or Esc releases the lock. Delete removes the focused mark. Undo/redo with Ctrl/Cmd+Z (add Shift to redo). Export, save/open, and navigation operate in the All marks view.

One passage, one set of marks: each view simply renders whichever marks apply to it. Tagging correctly is your responsibility; the tool only flags objective faults such as loops or missing links.
Reed & Kellogg's 1877 method (public domain) sets the core clause on a horizontal baseline and hangs modifiers on slanted lines beneath the words they modify. To let the tool draw it, tag words and link them explicitly:
1. Tag the Verb, its Subject, and its Object or Complement (predicate noun/adjective). These form the baseline: Subject | Verb | Object, or Subject | Verb \ Complement.
2. Optionally reinforce the baseline with links: subject of / object of / complement of from each word to the verb. Where roles alone are ambiguous (more than one verb), the links decide placement.
3. Tag modifiers — adjectives, adverbs, and articles (Determiner) — with Modifier/Determiner, then right-drag a modifies link from each modifier to its head word. It renders on a slant beneath that word.
4. Prepositional phrase: tag the Preposition and link it modifies → its head; tag the object of the preposition and link it object of → the preposition. Renders as preposition-on-slant leading to a line carrying its object.
5. Compound item (X and Y): link one to the other with coordinate with; renders on a split baseline branch joined by a dotted conjunction line.
6. Subordinate clause: tag its own Subject/Verb, then link its verb modifies → the main-clause word it attaches to; renders on a pedestal rising from that word.
Untagged or unlinked words are left off the baseline. The renderer never guesses grammar — it only draws what your tags and links specify.
This reproduces the standard, public-domain Reed–Kellogg conventions only; it does not copy any proprietary diagramming software or its interface.
